Low carbon steel has balanced ductility and strength but low wear resistance; medium carbon steel has balanced ductiltiy and strength with good wear resistance; high carbon steel with 0.6 to 1.0% carbon content is strong and used for springs and high-strength wires; and ultra-high carbon steel with 1.25 to 2.0 carbon content is hard and tempered.
